Counselling in Kings Hill & West Malling
What does an integrative counsellor do?
An integrative counsellor uses different therapeutic approaches and techniques to create a personalised experience for each client. At Sense Counselling Kent, I work collaboratively with you, adapting therapy to your individual needs, experiences and goals rather than following a “one-size-fits-all” approach.
What can I see a counsellor about?
You can come to counselling for many different reasons. I specialise in grief and loss, addiction and relationship difficulties, and also support clients experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, stress, life changes and emotional overwhelm. My clients range in age from 15 to 100, so I work with a broad spectrum of life issues from different perspectives.
You don’t need a diagnosis or a clear explanation of what’s wrong. If you’re finding life difficult and feel that talking to someone could help, counselling may be right for you.
Can counselling help with grief and bereavement?
Yes. Grief can be overwhelming, and there is no set timeframe for how long it should last.
Counselling provides a safe, confidential space to process the emotions surrounding loss and make sense of how grief is affecting your life. I support people experiencing bereavement as well as other forms of loss, including relationship breakdown, changes in circumstances, identity or health.
Can counselling help with addiction?
Yes. I work with people affected by addiction, including those experiencing addictive behaviours themselves and those supporting someone they love.
Counselling can help you explore the thoughts, feelings, experiences and relationship patterns connected to addiction, while developing healthier ways of coping and understanding yourself.
Can counselling help with relationship problems?
Yes. Relationship difficulties can affect every part of our lives.
Individual counselling can help you explore communication, boundaries, trust, attachment, conflict and recurring patterns in relationships. It can also help you understand your own needs and how past experiences may influence your relationships today.

How do I choose the right counsellor?
Finding a counsellor you feel comfortable with is important. A good therapeutic relationship should feel safe, respectful and collaborative.
I offer an initial opportunity to discuss what you’re experiencing and what you’re hoping to get from counselling, so you can decide whether Sense Counselling Kent feels like the right fit for you.
What happens during the first counselling session?
The first session allows us to get to know one another and talk about what has brought you to counselling.
We’ll discuss what you’d like support with, what you hope to achieve and how we might work together. You don’t need to prepare anything or know exactly what you want to say.
It can feel overwhelming, sometimes like it’s a bit of a brain dump, and that your story is all over the place. Don’t worry, that’s completely normal – the goal of our first session is to make sure you feel comfortable and safe.
How long is a counselling session?
Counselling sessions are 50 minutes and take place regularly.
Regular sessions can provide consistency and give you dedicated time to focus on yourself and the things that matter to you. I work weekly with the majority of my clients; however, I do have fortnightly and monthly sessions available too.
How many counselling sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number of sessions. Everyone’s circumstances and goals are different.
Some people benefit from short-term counselling focused on a particular issue, while others prefer longer-term support. We’ll regularly review your progress and make sure therapy continues to meet your needs.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is an important part of counselling and helps create a safe environment where you can speak openly.
At the beginning of therapy, I’ll explain confidentiality and the limited circumstances where information may need to be shared because of serious concerns about someone’s safety.
How much does counselling cost?
Counselling fees are discussed when you enquire. You’ll know the cost of your sessions before starting therapy, with no hidden fees. Fees normally range between £60 and £70, with couples sessions costing £120. Concessions available, so reach out to find out how I can help.
