Grief & Bereavement Counselling

Finding a way through grief, at your own pace

Losing someone or something you love can change everything. Grief can feel overwhelming, unpredictable and incredibly lonely, particularly when it feels as though everyone or everything else has returned to normal while you’re still trying to make sense of what has happened.

At Sense Counselling Kent, I offer a safe, compassionate space where you can talk about your loss, your feelings and everything that has changed.

You don’t have to know what you need from counselling. We can start wherever you are.

What does grief feel like?

There is no single experience of grief.

You might feel sadness, anger, guilt, anxiety or numbness. You may find yourself struggling with sleep, relationships, work or everyday activities. You may feel completely overwhelmed one day and relatively okay the next.

You might also experience feelings that you didn’t expect or find difficult to talk about.

Counselling can give you somewhere to explore these emotions without judgement and without pressure to ‘move on’.

Grief isn’t just about bereavement

We can experience grief following many different types of loss.

This might include:

  • The death of someone you love
  • The end of a significant relationship
  • Separation or divorce
  • Loss of pregnancy or fertility treatments
  • Changes to family circumstances
  • Loss of health or independence
  • Loss of identity
  • A significant change in your life
  • Losing the future you thought you were going to have

Whatever your loss, your feelings are valid.

How can counselling help?

As an integrative counsellor, I tailor my work to you rather than following a set formula.

Talking can help you make sense of what you’re experiencing and create space for emotions that may feel difficult to manage on your own. Depending on what feels right for you, we may explore your relationships, thoughts, feelings, coping strategies and experiences of loss.

There is no expectation that you should ‘get over’ your grief.

The aim is to help you find a way of living with your loss while continuing to care for yourself and move forward at your own pace.
