Relationship Counselling

Understanding yourself and your relationships

Our relationships can be a source of love, connection and support, but they can also be where some of our deepest difficulties emerge.

You might be experiencing conflict with a partner, struggling to communicate, finding it difficult to trust, or noticing the same patterns appearing in your relationships again and again.

Individual counselling can give you a safe space to understand what’s happening and explore what you need.

What relationship difficulties can counselling help with?

You may be struggling with:

  • Communication difficulties
  • Repeated arguments or conflict
  • Trust and betrayal
  • Separation or relationship breakdown
  • Boundaries
  • Feeling disconnected from your partner
  • Difficulties with intimacy
  • Anxiety within relationships
  • Attachment and fear of abandonment
  • Repeating unhealthy relationship patterns
  • The impact of previous relationships or experiences

You don’t need to know exactly what the problem is before coming to counselling.

Why do I keep experiencing the same relationship patterns?

Sometimes the way we relate to others is influenced by experiences we have had throughout our lives.

Understanding these patterns doesn’t mean blaming yourself or your past. It can simply give you greater awareness of why you respond to certain situations in the way you do.

Counselling can help you explore these patterns and consider whether there are different ways of responding that feel healthier for you.

What if I’m struggling with a relationship but my partner won’t come to counselling?

You can still benefit from individual counselling.

You don’t need your partner to attend for us to explore what’s happening for you. We can focus on your experiences, needs, communication, boundaries and responses within the relationship.

Sometimes understanding your own part in a relationship dynamic can be an important first step towards change.

An integrative approach to relationship counselling

There isn’t one way to understand a relationship.

As an integrative counsellor, I draw on different therapeutic approaches depending on what you need. Our work may involve exploring your current circumstances alongside your experiences, emotions, thoughts, conflict management and relationship patterns.

The focus is always on you and what you want to understand or change.
